Thankful

A best friend...
Is someone you can count on.
They're there for you when you need them most
They listen, nod and input kindly
Don't worry about being a good host.

They worry, hope and plead you're alright
And when you are, they cry for joy
Their hearts can travel such long ways
And they don't use yours like a toy.

A best friend understands
A best friend accepts you for who you are
They laugh with you
They smile with warmth
And though they think you're bizarre
They still love ya.

When you come to visit
A grin spreads across their face
Even if you're uninvited
They'll be sure to clear some space

A best friend doesn't judge
A best friend won't stab you in the back
They'll support you
Assist you without question
And though you're on the wrong track
They still love ya.

Memories and inside jokes
The time you sat beneath great oaks
Problems, fights and criss-crossed arms
Exchanging necklaces and charms
Disagreeing and then offsetting
Always forgiving and forgetting

I am thankful for such a friend.
Without you in my life
How would I make it to the end?
I'd be overcome by strife.
But you're always there
And I know you'll forever care!
