Different

Did you ever feel lost?
Stuck in the crowd?
Like you didn't belong
And you know you weren't proud?
Well, I know the feeling
And you're not alone
It's that sense of no rest
Like you don't have a home.

Being the odd one out
Doesn't always prevail
It haunts what you feel
It lures you off-trail.
Afraid to speak your mind?
Weary of another's opinion?
That's another sign
Of that 'different' dominion.

But though it gets you stares
And people's dismissive looks
It isn't all a bad thing
It just keeps you up on hooks.
By suspending your very mind
Negativity sets in
You're left to believe being different
Spikes you like a pin.

But difference is good
It shapes who you are
It shows you different roads
So choose and journey far.
Just because you're influenced
Doesn't mean you should change
And if someone doesn't accept you for that
It doesn't mean you're strange.

So be your different self
Forget the 'good' normality
Have faith in your beliefs
And stand up to reality.

Search for the ones who understand
And who look for the same thing
Because they are the true friends
Who don't hang by a string.
